Welcome to this part of my blog where I get the chance to tell a little about me.

Who am I?!

I’m a SQL Server DBA with 10+ years of experience. I current work as a SQL Server DBA. I’ve worked in several different industries from energy, financial to healthcare.

My love for data and databases started long ago when I became an accidental DBA and since then grew to what it’s at the moment.

In the past I did some development in C#, PHP, Java but that wasn’t really me. I like data and love to tinker with data to make it understandable for everyone.

What do I do?

You know that I’m a  SQL Server DBA and that’s my primary focus at the moment. I work a lot with PowerShell which made my life a whole lot easier.

I’ve done work with high availability using fail-over clustering, mirroring, log shipping and sorts alike. I do the occasional development of databases which brings my love as a developer back.

The thing being a DBA (and for the entire IT industry) is that there’s is always something new to learn which makes your job so much fun.

The last few years have been interesting because I started presenting, something I wanted to do for a long time. This opened up a whole new world and I got the chance to meet new people. I really like to present and reach out to people.

In my time as a DBA I had to do some sort of certification to get the jobs I wanted. Although I still rely on work experience from the field, certification is still for most companies a way of base lining you.

In the last few years I got the following certifications: MCP, MCSA, MCITP SQL Database Administrator, MCITP Database Administrator 2008, MCSE Data Platform.

Is that it?

No of course that’s not it.

I live in the Netherlands, in my spare time I like to do sports like Crossfit, Shaolin Kempo, Snowboarding en Running. Have to keep in shape with a desk job 😉

So why this blog?

I’ve always had the urge to share what I experienced with others and wanted a place to organize everything that went on in my head.

Besides the stuff I write about, if you have any questions related to SQL Server or PowerShell, feel free to send me an e-mail. I really like to be challenged and if I can’t answer your question I’ll have the opportunity to write a new blog thanks to you.

Hope you enjoy my blog and all your comments are appreciated.
